Hi! I'm just poking around your journal. To answer your question, did I have a similar experience at Tumblr? Yes and no. Tumblr was a fun place until everyone migrated there and it became a zoo. Getting bought by Yahoo didn't help either. They took away features and put up ads with flashing lights that I can't block which give me migraines. I spend less and less time there because it's no longer an enjoyable experience. And now Verizon is acquiring Yahoo? Oh no. That's not good news. Verizon is The Worst. If they can't make money off the site, they'll dump it like last week's garbage.
I'm slowly reposting all of my Tumblr XF fanfic recs to DW for safekeeping. However, I never left DW/LJ completely. I kept my main XF community on LiveJournal (currently inactive because of RL craziness) but backed it up to DW in April.
If you want to meet new friends here, st_aurafina had a friending meme back in January. (I'm guessing you missed it.) It might be too late to add your name (although it couldn't hurt) but you could scroll through the comments, look for people with similar interests. Another good place to look for people is snowflake_challenge. They had a friending meme, too. There is also 2017revival and addme. Someone just put up a Harry Potter friending meme. Because LJ moved its servers to Russia, and the new TOS agreement, a fair number of users have moved from there to here. There has been some backwards migration and new people coming from Tumblr, too. You are not the only one who is dissatisfied.
There are still people blogging but they have Wordpress or Blogspot blogs. I follow a few fashion bloggers, a few cooking blogs, Literature, book reviews. I get some in my email. I have feeds for others.
